Martha Braebuck has been in a wheelchair since she was born. Martin the Warrior comes to her in a dream telling her about how she can walk. Martin says that the secret lies in Loamhedge, an uninhabited Abbey. He also tells her two travelers returning to Redwall will have to go there, not Martha. When the time comes for those two travelers to set off for Loamhedge, three young inhabitants of Redwall want to go with them. A long way from Redwall, Raga Bol and his army of searats have murdered Lonna Bowstripeﾒs friend and almost killed Lonna. Vowing to rid the world of Raga Bol and his followers, Lonna sets off to find them on a long journey that will eventually bring him to Redwall. Together Lonna Bowstripe and the residents at Redwall Abbey must fight the searats as they try to invade Redwall. The stories of Martha Braebuck and Lonna Bowstripe come together at the end of this book. This book was one of the better Redwall sagas. The stories were very interesting and I liked the characters. A criticism I have is that there are too many songs in this book. The riddles are fine because that is what most of the Redwall books seem to revolve around, a riddle to figure out some mystery. I feel, though, that there were a lot of songs in this book that Brian Jacques did not have to put in. Nevertheless, Loamhedge was certainly one of the better books I have read.
