Flamingnet Student Book Reviewer Application
|
|
Flamingnet has worked with hundreds of student reviewers from all over the United States, ranging from 5th grade to college.
These students review new and advance books for us. They appreciate this opportunity and find reviewing for Flamingnet to be very worthwhile and fun
(Please read comments from some of our student reviewers).
We are always looking for good readers who can write coherent summaries and opinions about the books they read. Students must also be dependable and
self-motivated.
If you are interested in becoming a Flamingnet Student Reviewer, please
complete our application form,
print it out, and mail it to us, along with a one-time administrative fee of $10.00 to help us with the costs
associated with mailing books to you.
All student reviewers under 18 years old must have an adult sponsor. This sponsor should either be a parent,
librarian, or teacher. Sponsors are people we contact if students do not send their reviews back in at timely fashion and are sometimes
asked to edit a student's reviews before submitting the reviews to Flamingnet.
(If you are not accepted as a Flamingnet student reviewer, the administrative fee will be refunded to you.
For students of families with financial difficulty, we honor requests submitted by librarians and teachers asking that we waive the
administrative fee. The administrative fee is discounted by 20% for librarians and teachers submitting five or more applications at one time.)

About Our Student Reviewers and Review Process
Flamingnet (www.flamingnet.com) is a website that recommends books to preteens, teens, and young adults.
Besides recommending books, Flamingnet is also an advance book reviewer for Penguin,
Scholastic, Time Warner, HarperCollins and many other publishing companies.
These publishing companies, along with individual authors, regularly send us
advance and newly released copies of preteen, teen, and young adult literature for our review.
These reviews are then posted on Flamingnet.
Flamingnet Student Reviewers work very hard to read, review, and recommend
books for the visitors to our website. We are always looking for conscientious
students, who are good readers, to review for Flamingnet.
In order to apply to become a Flamingnet Student Reviewer, students must complete the application mentioned above.
Upon receipt of a student's application and administrative fee, we email them their username and password.
These are used to login to Flamingnet and view the books we currently have available for review.
Each Student Reviewer selects a book from this list of available new and advance titles. They
receive their book by mail or by another arrangement if they are local to us, and are asked to review it
within 4 - 6 weeks. The review is submitted online using a username and password.
In some cases, we require that a student's sponsor read and edit the review before it is submitted to us.
All submitted reviews before being posted on Flamingnet are evaluated by a Flamingnet Underwriter.
A Flamingnet Underwriter is an adult who has volunteered to help us
evaluate student reviews that are submitted to us. The underwriters
are published authors, English teachers, librarians, and other educators that provide valuable feedback to our reviewers
concerning areas such as sentence structure and grammar usage. This feedback is an added benefit of reviewing for Flamingnet and
will help improve a student's writing skills.
If the student's review is accepted for posting on Flamingnet, the reviewer is allowed to request another book to review. On the
other hand, if our underwriter rejects a student's review, the student is sent specific comments about how their review needs to be
revised. The student is asked to resubmit their review after edting it with their sponsor.
If you have questions, please send us an email or call us (410 215-9020).
Thank you
